Sale of liquor and cigarette allowed amidst lockdown extension but conditions apply
With the nationwide lockdown set to get extended for the next two weeks till May 17, the government permitted many activities, bringing little relief to the citizens.
Depending upon the severity of the corona hit regions and the number of active coronavirus cases across the country, the country has been segregated into the orange, green and red zones.
While green zones are the safest out of the lot with less restrictions, there are more restrictions in the orange zone. Red zones are the worst affected and have the maximum restrictions imposed.
The government has allowed the opening of liquor and paan shops in the green zone.
The Home Ministry additionally announced that the shops will be allowed to operate only if they follow the six feet social distancing rule. Not more than five people are allowed to accumulate at a time in the shop.
The restriction on the sale of liquor was being considered as a major issue during the lockdown as it was one of the biggest source of revenue generators for a plethora of states.
